The land that would become Kyoto, 1205 AD. The Sorcerer of Winds and Sky, the Eternal who was one of the great ones who ruled over and shaped the Endless Realm to his will; right now he was hunting ayu, the small sweet fish that were found in the river he lived by. To be fair, he was also four and not yet aware he was magi-gifted, much less aware that he was one day going to ascend to near godhood.
The child was small (and a little pudgy) with fair skin and unusual features. His blue silk hair and gold eyes had been a source of fear for his neighbors and fellow villagers, until a local wiseman had declared that the boy was simply blessed by the spirits. But the boy knew nothing of this. His mother had set him free earlier that day, promising him that if he came home with fish that she would have a treat waiting. The boy, who was for the time being called "Masaki", set out for adventure.
Wandering happily by the muddy banks of the river, he dipped his hand in the water, and rushed forward to check the fish-traps he had set last night. They were all empty but one, from which he plucked three wriggling ayu. Stuffing them in the small bag at his side, the boy toddered off back down the path to his house.
Off to his right however, was a branching path that led farther along the river bank. Looking at the sun, the boy realized he still had a few hours before his mother would expect him back. And he'd never been down the right hand path before. So without a moment's thought--and without knowing what was to come--the boy ran down the path, satchel thumping against his side. tagged; damaris
